What is Body Butter?

Should I be embarrassed to admit that I didn't really know what body butter was when we took over Waterbody? Probably. But I'm glad I asked because now I know! Maybe you're wondering too.

Body butter is a rich, nourishing moisturizer designed to give your skin a deep dose of hydration and protection. Lotions and hand creams do that too, but body butter is typically made from a blend of natural butters (like shea, cocoa, or mango butter) and oils, and doesn't contain any water. The result is a creamy, dense texture that melts into the skin, leaving it soft, supple, and shielded from dryness.

The main thing that sets body butter apart is its concentration. Lotions are generally water-based and lighter, absorbing quickly for a boost of moisture without any heaviness. Hand creams are a little thicker than lotions, formulated to focus on the hands’ delicate skin, but they are still lighter than body butter. Due to body butter's thicker consistency, it can take a bit longer to fully absorb into skin.

Body butter is all about lasting hydration. Thanks to its high oil and butter content, it forms a protective barrier on your skin. This makes it especially helpful for those with dry, rough, or sensitive skin, or anyone living in harsh climates (hello, Alaska winters - and summers!). I love applying it after showering and before bedtime.
