A Day in the Life of a Small Batch Skincare Formulator in Alaska

Come to work with me as the founder of a small batch skincare brand in Wrangell, Alaska!

It's formulation day because I am down to the very last tin of our bestselling Fisherman's Balm. So I need to work on a big restock.

After suiting up in my protective lab coat and hairnet, I start every formulation day by sanitizing every surface and piece of equipment I'll be working with.

Then I weight the oils and ingredients to start the batch. While the oils warm up, I work through some of our order queue - packing and shipping any remaining orders from the weekend. There are lots of wildflower facial oils going out into the world this week!

Once our base oils are nice and warm, I blend in the beeswax, vitamin E oil, and a few essential oils that give this balm a nice light woodsy scent.

This Fisherman's Balm was one of the first products I created for the brand, something like 7 years ago. And still to this day, everything is made completely by hand in small batches. This batch made about 210 balms that are now freshly restocked here on the website. Find your tin here!
